| Food Bank of the Hudson Valley Seeks Volunteers! |
The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley offers community leaders and volunteers meaningful involvement as an event/fundraiser committee member. The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley has several event planning committee openings for individuals to help out. Toni Gutter, Director of Development is looking for pro-active people who can sit on the Food Bank's annual "Business Mixer & Live Auction" that is scheduled for September 10, 2009 at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, 5:30-8:30 pm. This year the Food Bank will be honoring United Way of Dutchess County and Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun. The Food Bank is in need of pro-active committee members to help with all phases of this event. If anyone is interested in serving on the committee, it would be greatly appreciated. Below is a brief description of what the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley does and its role in the community. As unemployment rates reach record levels, food banks across the country are experiencing an unparalleled increase in the demand for food. The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley is coping with a new challenge. In 2009, our member agencies are reporting anywhere from a 25% to a 35% increase in requests for food. Membership in the Food Bank has also risen to 33% during the last 5 ½ years.
The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, located in Cornwall-on-Hudson , NY is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that works to alleviate the pain of hunger and prevent food waste. It collects large donations of edible but unmarketable food from the food industry and distributes it to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other charitable agencies feeding the hungry. Last year, the Food Bank distributed nearly 8 million pounds of food to over 370 member agencies throughout Orange , Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland , Sullivan and Ulster counties. Every $1 donated allows the Food Bank to provide 4 meals worth of food. Donations help the Food Bank to operate its 55,000 square foot warehouse and feed the hungry in our communities. |
